This was probably the best video footage I've seen between East Town (Wanganui) and Feilding. Many fond memories of my days of working for NZ Rail back in the 80's in Wanganui, Taihape, Waiouru, Marton, Hawera, Palmerston North and Wellington. My best memories though are in Wanganui, working in the Freight Branch but also working alongside the Shunters and the Traffic Foreman in Town and East Town. In Palmerston North, I recall we organised a Mystery Train Trip incorporating our Clients from Wanganui and Palmerston with a trip starting from Wanganui Freight Terminal to Palmerston North then via the Manawatu Gorge over to Mangatainoka to the Breweries. The Castlecliff Line was a busy shunt line hauling FWL & FCL from the likes of Wanganui Wool Dumpers & Processors, Imlay Meat Works (Waitaki NZR), occasionally from Tasman Tanning & Wanganui Seafoods (Wanganui Trawlers). It was my first time seeing in action mid 80's Remote Control locomotive operations. East Town back then was a very busy Marshalling Yard and was the cross over between Palmerston North and New Plymouth.

21000 horsepower of incredible sound, with a beautiful background to match...
